Transfer Case Operation



Weber State University (WSU) – Automotive Technology Department – Transmission Lab. The operation and power flow of this part-time 4WD transfer case is very similar to other transfer cases manufactured by New Process, New Venture Gear, Borg-Warner, Magna Powertrain, etc. This transfer case is the Toyota JF1A Transfer Case. The JF1A is built by Aisin, a Toyota owned company. This transfer case is typically used in 2007 through 2013 Toyota Tundra trucks. The 2014 Tundra uses a Borg-Warner transfer case.

This video helps satisfy the requirements of the following NATEF tasks:
3.F.5 – 4WD/AWD – Diagnose noise, vibration, and unusual steering
concerns; determine necessary action – Priority Level 3
3.F.6. ” Diagnose, test, adjust, and replace electrical/electronic components of four-wheel drive systems.”, a priority 3 task.
3.F.1. “Inspect, adjust, and repair shifting controls (mechanical, electrical, and vacuum), bushings, mounts, levers, and brackets.” a priority 3 task.
