24″ 600# ball valve. The valve weighs over 14,000 lbs. Torque required is approx 500,000 in/lbs. Actuator is rated for 600,000 in/lbs (50,000 ft/lbs) torque. It is 1 of 3 terminal inlet pressure control valves on a main liquid pipeline being built down the middle of the US. The actuator is a discrete, self-contained electro-hydraulic type with no oil tank. It is a sealed, closed-loop, positive pressure design that requires no periodic oil/filter maintenance. It is motor hybrid type – motor driving a hydraulic circuit instead of a gearbox. High output torque, high speed, high duty cycle, high accuracy, low power consumption (motor only activates when position change is required), low maintenance. This design has become the industry standard for liquid pipeline pressure/flow control applications. Low deadband (0.05%), short deadtime (90 mS), with brushless servo motors (no limitation on starts/stops per hour). True system approved hazardous area ratings (not only component level approvals) – these have firm complete system approvals and the documentation to go along with it. Total oil volume in this high torque hydraulic system is 10 quarts (9.5 liters) – about 2.5 US Gallons. An electric actuator and gearbox in this torque range would contain more grease. Other EH type actuators would have at least 10X the oil – which would require routine maintenance – and continuously consume power.
The REXA electraulic design is the standard for modulating control valves of all sizes on liquid pipelines in N. America and China, and is preferred by many major liquid pipeline companies in other countries/regions. For more info you can visit www.rexa.com or e-mail me directly at ghynes@rexa.com
