The video shows the Philips Inverted Planar Motor with a thin moving sheet. Special to this design is that the moving part consists of a checkerboard of magnets hovering over a base consisting of multiple coils. These coils can be used to control the moving part in its six degrees of freedom. Measurement is done using Hall sensors.
The planar maglev actuation principle has various benefits, including: excellent dynamic isolation; no wear or lubricant contamination; very high accuracy high accelerations; easily incorporated in designs; and easily extendable to multiple stages.
