British Gas wants to make sure you have a safe and efficiently running central heating system. Knowing when and how to bleed a radiator is important for a smooth running heating throughout your home.
First if your radiators are cold at the top, then the radiator will need to be bled. If the radiator is cold at the bottom then this is due to a build-up of sludge which is a mix of water, air and metal. To have this fixed a British Gas engineer will have to be called out.
Here’s how to bleed a radiator:
1) First turn off your central heating
2) Put a rag under the valve of the radiator to catch any water
3) Turn the radiator key anticlockwise about a quarter turn until the sound of the air stops and the water runs smoothly.
4) Turn the central heating back on
