1. Operation Principle
The Thermostatic Wax that has been sealed in shell body induces expansion by a given temperature, and inner rubber seal part drives its handspike to move under expansion pressure to realize a transition from thermal energy into mechanical energy. The Thermostatic Wax brings an upward movement to its handspike, and automatic control of various function are realized by use of upward movement of handspike. This is a little project I did, just because I can, that opens and closes a vent damper on my return air duct on my furnace. The damper is in the finished part of the basement in the dropped ceiling. There is a temperature sensor, an Ethernet Shield, and an Arduino Mega all got from Spark Fun. A little bit of coding magic and some hacking together of a way to hook it to the damper and voilà. Anyway, it was a pretty cool project for my first serious trek into the world of microcontrollers and I wanted to share it on facebook so I posted this.
