1. Operation Principle
The Thermostatic Wax that has been sealed in shell body induces expansion by a given temperature, and inner rubber seal part drives its handspike to move under expansion pressure to realize a transition from thermal energy into mechanical energy. The Thermostatic Wax brings an upward movement to its handspike, and automatic control of various function are realized by use of upward movement of handspike. The return of handspike is accomplished by negative load in a given returned temperature.

(4)Lag phenomenon is generally 1 ~ 2℃. Friction of each component part and lag of the component part temperature cause a lag phenomenon. Because there is a difference between up and down curve of traveling distance.
(5)Loading force of thermal wax actuator is difference, it depends on its’ shell size.

We present a passive, fluid-based transmission which allows robot arms to achieve fast and graceful motion by removing heavy electric motors from the arms and mounting them to the body instead. This lightweight, low friction transmission is particularly suited for robotic applications that require delicate movements and compliant physical interaction with people. This transmission can also be used passively, without motors, for remote manipulation of objects, or remote puppeting of mechanical characters. The puppeteer receives direct haptic feedback during operation, including the ability to feel surface textures, when the transmission is filled with water rather than air. We also constructed a lightweight version of the transmission that operates under vacuum pressures and connects to robot joints using string tendons; these actuators are made entirely of soft, non-metallic materials.
Showing off my greenhouse that has automatically opening and closing windows. Powered by old car battery, driven by old cordless drill and controlled by barebones Arduino. If inside gets too hot or not so hot but too moist it opens the windows. If weather is stormy and dangerous for open windows, they get closed – that’s why the anemometer is there. It also logs temperature measurements on SD card.
This thing was in testing few days this autumn, will have to wait til next summer to see how much difference it makes for tomato plants. It also needs some covers to keep the mechanical parts from rain.
